We all (well, hopefully all of us) use soap every day. It is something that we use to wash our bodies. It is also something that we use to clean the outside surface of our bodies from dust, dirt, and grime.
The thing is that the things that we use to clean and care for our bodies are the same things that we use to clean and care for the surface of our bodies. (Phew!). If we didn’t destroy our bodies when we eat berries and vegetables and how could we combat the damage that we inflict on our bodies every day from the things that we use?
So What is Soap?
So what exactly is soap? It is a type of consumer goods that is soap based. The name soap comes from theASTM rating which is a rating system that manufacturers use to identify the soap ingredients in their products. Soap ingredients are created by the oils from newsols (washing oils) mixed with alkalis. (Causes of friction between the alkalis and the soap are what makes soap a satisfactory cleaning agent.)
Technically, soap is a mixture of the two ingredientsWater and Soap (or saponified oils). So what makes it so appealing to use it to clean your body?
For one thing, when you think of clean, soap free, natural soap, you are restoring some of the original luster to your skin that soap removes.
And second, if you have ever used natural soap (incognito), you should know that in the long run, all the chemicals that soap companies use to enhance their soap remove that luster from your skin and they can actually cause more damage than good.
(If your thinking mirrors that of discontinued brand cleanser that is partially soluble in vinegar, you are not using natural soap. Just assume it is as you are scrubbing away some of the additives that are stripping some of the qualities that make natural soap so attractive to you personally.)
Having said that though, what is so often advertised as natural soap? And why is it so often advertised as such? Is it really natural?
What makes soaps so appealing to the consumer is certainly not the fact that they are natural. Those clean and soft feeling soaps are tons of chemicals and artificial fragrances that are often called foaming agents.
(Foaming agents are those products that can expand or flow in a solution. You can often recognize most foaming agents by the following words: sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, calcium dioxide, and ammonium lauryl sulfate. You will see them listed as much as 50 times in the ingredients of your cleanser or other cleaning product:naively, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, tale areforsmart cleaning products. And if you check out the scents in your cleaners, you will find them to be either fruit or essence scents which are floral notes that are normally washed out in synthetic fragrances.)
So what is so often advertised as natural soap? And why is it so often advertised as such? Is it really natural?
After a good deal of investigation on the part of concerned individuals, I have determined that most soaps are not all natural. What you are likely to find is that many of the soaps on grocery store shelves that are advertised as natural are in fact the same ones you will find in any other commercial soap bars.
Gels and lotions that are marked as natural tend to be made primarily from synthetic chemicals and if natural soap bars have a high concentration of herbs in them, that is only to show that the soap is natural. There is no redness or fragrance to speak of unless the soap in fact has a very high concentration of essential oils.
I have found that the most natural soaps are made from about 80% to 90% of elements that are plants based.
Anything that you can do to make your skin moist and elastic, and leave it smooth and soft should be added to a soap recipe.
If you don’t know the answer to the question, what is soap, you can ask your local teenager, she will tell you. She will point out that soap is a white viscous liquid that you can buy at your local grocery store.
In conclusion, what is soap is a mystery to a lot of people, but after researching different soap recipes, I found out that my soap was all the different. My secret recipe is as follows:
Q. What is soap?
A. That’s a great question, a soap is a combination of oil and lye. When the oil and lye are mixed together, they create soap. These two ingredients produce the biggest bang for the dry soap solution.
